When it debuted on Fox Kids in 1992, X-Men: The Animated Series marked a revolution for Saturday morning cartoons. Its serialized format, comic-accurate look—and more importantly, comic-accurate storylines—successfully translated the addictive appeal of comic books into a show. Some elements have aged better than others, and upon rewatching the entire series it’s clear that certain action scenes, story beats, and characters were diluted in order to adhere to strict censorship standards in place for children’s television.
