The G-SHOCK line of watches goes back to 1983 with the debut of the DW5000C, the brainchild of engineer Kikuo Ibe, the line became a breakout hit for Casio, creating a new category of tough watches that combined the ability to withstand just about anything thrown at them with a modern design sensibility.
Four years later, the DW5600 series debuted, first the DW5600C with a metal case back, then later on the DW5600E which introduced solar power. The simple design has become an icon in its own right, and it served as the perfect canvas for the first partnership between G-SHOCK and HIDDEN: the DW5600HDN227, released just in time for G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary.
This Friday, the second edition of this partnership comes into fruition with the DW5600HDN257. Taking inspiration from ‘90s electronics, minimal technology, and conceptual race cars, the watch is the piece de resistance in this week’s “IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE” capsule, and pays a quiet homage to racing and car culture through the inclusion of the black bull bars added to the face for additional protection.
Further, the HIDDEN NY ⓗ logo appears on the face of the watch when lit up via LED backlight, and the HIDDEN signature design codes come through in the green-accented transparent resin bezel and complementing matte white bands with HIDDEN branding. The watch features a 200-meter water resistance and includes features like a countdown timer, stopwatch, multi-function alarm, and the ability to display time in both 12 and 24-hour formats.
In addition to early access to this week’s release and the watch, paid members of the HIDDEN community will also receive a free 8.25” x 11.7” poster inspired by the DW5600HDN227 and vintage Casio G-SHOCK manuals. Upgrade your membership now to unlock early access.
The DW5600HDN227 will cost $175 and releases on HIDDEN PPF. Beginning July 24, it will be available for purchase on gshock.com and at the G-SHOCK Soho store.
