In the early 1960s, architect John Lautner —a former apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright— was tapped to design what would become one of Los Angeles’ most famous houses. It was a commission from Neo-Fauvist painter Helen Taylor Sheats and her husband, UCLA professor Paul Henry Sheats.
