When renowned manga artist Akira Toriyama unexpectedly passed away last week, his influence was clearly seen from the number of people who expressed how inspirational his work was to culture at large. Most famous as the creator of the Dragon Ball series, his recognizable character designs shaped much of what we associate with the anime aesthetic, and it all but dominated the ‘90s landscape of anime visuals.
